On the 27th of July, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works between the Minister, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, and the Shipping and Aviation Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association, represented by Mr. Xenios Xenopoulos and our Managing Partner Mrs. Alexandra Pelaghias-Christodoulou.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how Cyprus could evolve into an International Aviation Center. During the meeting, the Shipping and Aviation Committee presented an Action Plan to the Minister, outlining the potential growth of the aviation sector and the creation of new job opportunities through the development of such a center.
Key proposals presented by Mrs. Pelaghias-Christodoulou and Mr. Xenopoulos included:
The establishment of pilot schools equipped with professional flight simulators
The creation of an aircraft maintenance center in Cyprus
The development of a private aircraft parking facility
Furthermore, the Committee emphasised the importance of modernising the Aviation Legislation, with particular focus on the introduction of tax incentives to attract airlines to register their aircrafts in Cyprus. This, in turn, would position Cyprus as a strategic transit hub.
The Minister, after expressing his gratitude to the Shipping and Aviation Committee for their valuable suggestions, highlighted that the Cyprus strategic location and its high-quality services sector, offer a strong foundation for establishing Cyprus as an International Aviation Center. He also expressed his eagerness for continued collaboration with the Committee, noting that the successful implementation of these initiatives would greatly benefit both Cyprus and its citizens.
